What’s in a name?

If you’re wondering why in the hell this blog is named Sparksfire, I’m here to satisfy that curiosity right now.

First thing you should know: it should really be written as… Spark’s Fire.

If you’ve read the About Me page, somewhere there I mentioned I am a basketball fan. And if you’re familiar with the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), you’ll probably know this particular player… Mark Caguioa of the Barangay Ginebra Kings.

His monicker?

The Spark.

[Well, it’s one of his monickers. Another one is Furious, as he is one-half on Ginebra’s backcourt tandem, The Fast and the Furious, with Jayjay Helterbrand completing the duo.]

I used to have the biggest crush on him. And it doesn’t help that I loved the way he plays–with so much passion and eagerness, and with a lot of heart. So I wanted a name that had something of Caguioa in it, and I came up with Spark’s Fire.

Plus, I liked the word ‘spark’ by itself. It represents a start, a beginning of something that could probably be big if given the right kind of fuel. If you have the spark, you can start a fire or an explosion right?

Ideas are like that. Give me one, and then I’ll probably think of something and start writing about it.

I see sparks all around, and I’m taking each and every single one to light up a fire.

Thus, the name.
